It's been eight long months since the college basketball season ended, but the Quakers are back on the hardcourt tonight for the start of the season at Maryland-Baltimore County. The Retrievers finished last season a 5-25, but both teams have a clean slate and a hopeful outlook for a new year.

I bitched about the rebounding in the first half (to be fair, it sounded like and probably was an absolute embarrassment), but props to them, as they were able to improve dramatically in that area during the second half. Not the best start to the season, but also not bad. From what I've heard, Belcore was dominant on defense and had a large part in many of Howlett's and Bernardini's boards; someone on the Ivy boards even essentially said he was the difference-maker, pointing out that he was on the bench during the terrible end to the first half. Thoughts?

  2. Belcore was definitely the difference-maker. He got in foul trouble quickly, but the Quakers absolutely shut down UMBC during the time he was on the court. His experience on the perimeter allows him to contain pick and rolls on the perimeter and he's strong enough to defend post players. He also just brings the team a lot of energy and seems to spark everyone else to defend with intensity.
