Happy Fourth everyone. Here are some links to take a look at before heading out to the cookout/fireworks/parade/traditional July 4th event you're attending later.
1) After giving his thoughts on two lottery picks, Ibby Jaaber now will play some basketball against NBA players, as he'll be on the Piston's summer league team again this year. (He previously was on the team in 2007.)
2) According to Penn Athletics, the Weiss Pavilion -- the extension to the north side of Franklin Field that'll have weight rooms, retail space etc ... -- is on track to open in March of 2010.
3) Here are a couple of Villanova hoops links. First, Fox Sports has a profile on Jay Wright who has now declined jobs from both Kentucky and the 76ers in the past year. Also, the Big East announced the conference matchups, and the Wildcats play Georgetown, Marquette and West Virginia twice.

Any updates on Roller Hockey?
July 7th, 2009 at 10:11 pm
You guys still can't locate Jaaber and have a personal conversation with him? You'd think you're trying to track down "Bigfoot," or the Loch Ness Monster.
What the heck is up with you guys? I know 10-year old aspiring journalists who, given this assignement, could make it happen! Please, enough with the tired excuses and someone on staff show just a little initiative to find out where Jaaber's at?
Are the Pistons giving him a real look this go-round? What's he heard from Detroit regarding how much of a formality this is versus a legit shot? How bout other NBA teams/personnel? Has he gotten feelers from the league? Where is he at vis a vis his NBA prospects (in his view) or he is committed to Europe?
Zach, you're a sports editor? How bout demonstrating it.
July 7th, 2009 at 10:16 pm
And Zach, how bout, for once, a reply? A real reply, that doesn't dodge your editorial responsibilities? Without excuses? Zach, exactly what have you done with the Jaaber story? Exactly what roadblocks have flummoxed you? And what have you and your industrious staff done to troubleshoot them? have you reached out to Jaaber's agent? How bout the Pistons? How bout Roma and their public relations? has anyone made a phone call to anyone? Or two or three follow-up calls? Jesus.

here's a "Random Ivy Note," Zach?
Where are you?

Any word on how Andreas Schreiber's rehab is coming? Buczak, Coury, Craig, Crimmins, Finley, Fitzgerald, Foote, Mangano, Mullery, Nelson, van Nest, and Wright are ready to rumble.

No updates from Klitzo. He is working on a special feature:
"Inside the Red and Blue Crew- From the Jon Lubin era
to the current Abyss of the Ivy League"

Just to let everyone know, I have sent an email to Steve responding to his posts.
July 10th, 2009 at 11:30 am
Can someone please explain what the deal is with Jon Lubin?
Is he some sort of cult hero? What did he do with the RBC?
Was he the founder?
I find this whole thing to be highly comical

IvyBballFan - Last I heard on Andreas was when I talked to Larry Loughery for my story on the summer leagues. Larry said Andreas was playing in the summer league trying to get back in shape. It seems he's almost fully recovered and primarily just trying to get back in game shape.
David - your guess is as good as ours. Even Jon Lubin himself does not know the identity or motives of FOJL. Mr. Lubin is a Penn alum, avid hoops fan, and valued reader and commenter here on The Buzz.

From what I can ascertain, "FOJL" apparently makes out TRJL to
be a major geek.

@ David Gershowitz
Very few have shown the loyaltly, passion, and devotion that Jon has
shown.
He was there for the JV fencing match in 2005.
He and the fellas camped out for a softball game vs Temple in 2004.
Also, he followed Coach Dan Lake up Locust Walk with his bullhorn
trying to get students to attend a home game against Dartmouth
in his sophomore campaign.
Between and TRJL and Howard Gensler, few can hold a candle.
Hope to see you all at the Penn Club on August 2, 2009.

Thanks, Noah and FOJL. Oh, and don't forget the 2003 Women's Volleyball match, in which a half-dozen Red and Blue Crew hecklers managed to get Bucknell's head coach so irritated that she got herself ejected in an attempt to get said hecklers ejected. See: http://media.www.dailypennsylvanian.com/media/storage/paper882/news/2003/09/24/Sports/Penn-Spikes.Bison.In.Five.Games-2153961.shtml
@ FOJL -- We finished 1-9 in the Spring 2009 season of the Manhattan Roller Hockey League. It was an expansion year, and none of our players had ever skated together before. Plenty of room to grow this Fall.
July 12th, 2009 at 10:39 pm
Random note: Ibby Jaaber will not be playing for the Detroit Pistons summer league team. I leave it to "the Buzz" investigative journalists to ascertain why.
July 13th, 2009 at 10:09 am
Thanks, Noah!
These cartilage injuries can be difficult to heal all the way to 100%. I was hoping that Andreas would be full-speed by mid-October. The above is potentially great news!

My friends and I go to some games. But we have no interest in joining
the RBC. We will not be attending lame volleyball games against
Bucknell and heckling the coaches.
Sure sounds like Lubin and his cronies were starving for attention...

Thanks, Abe, for nicely illustrating the difference between a casual fan and someone who bleeds red and blue.
Enjoy your four years. They go too quickly.
