Yale football picks its man

David Gurian-Peck

The Yale football program, whose 12-year coach Jack Siedlecki retired in November to become an assistant athletic director, has found his replacement.

Tom Williams, the new head honcho, will join Columbia's current boss, Norries Wilson, as the only two black head coaches in Ivy football history. Tomorrow's 2 p.m. press conference will reveal whether Williams' media style is as "unique" as Wilson's; my money's on no.

Williams, 38, spent the past two years as a defensive assistant with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He has been an assistant coach at Hawaii, Washington, Stanford and San Jose State.
